Product Description
The cat’s out of the bag, and Andy Ihnatko gives you a hundred reasons to fall in love with the Tiger. Packed with sage advice — and plenty of humor — this beefy volume holds your hand through installing Tiger, helps you diagnose and cure common problems, introduces you to more shortcuts than you ever imagined, and provides tips on everything from using Spotlight to choosing a tattoo. It’s not only the greatest Mac OS X guide ever, it’s surely the most entertaining.

You’ll find new chapters on:

  • Automator — your servant for boring-yet-complex tasks.
  • Spotlight — to find anything on your Mac instantly.
  • Dashboard — a pile of useful tools just a keystroke away.
  • Troubleshooting step by step?amaze your friends!
“Here, I’m going to help you out before you even start leafing through this thing. If you run an $8 FireWire cable between a pair of Macs running Tiger, the OS automatically creates an ultra-high-speed network between the two, with zero help from you. It’s one of the easiest and quickest ways to swap files or play network games, and you can even use this mini network to ‘share’ an Internet connection!

See? Have the other books’ authors done so much for you at this stage? Please keep this in mind as you make your purchasing decision.”
— Andy Ihnatko

5 Reveiws for The Mac OS X Tiger Book

  1. Mr. Anon says:

Unbelievably complicated by totally useless information that is neither funny, relevant or useful. It could be easily whittled down to 10 pages, and even then it would contain less info than the Tiger OS Owner’s Manual. Spend your $$$ on something else!!

  2. The book really deserves 0/5 stars, its simply that bad.

The author, Andy Ihnatko, attempts to be funny and in his effort adds piles of extra verbage onto every page. In fact, you can span pages at a time without stumbling onto useful information. The information on how to use your Mac is deeply buried under tons of unbelievably stupid comments and extremely bad jokes. You spend more time trying to FIND usefull information than on understanding it.

The author apparently finds himself and his inability to write coherently amusing. Under no circumstance would I reccomend this book to anyone. Less than a fourth of the book is useful information. A complete waste of money and more importantly time. This book provides basic information, but you have to aggressively find it since it is hidden in the authors relentless rants. The book is poorly written and poorly edited.

If you know how to turn on your Mac you are beyond the help offered from this book. Peer reviews on other books on Amazon.com have helped me in the past and I hope this will help you. My only goal is to help you save money and to find a better book on how to get the most from your Mac. If you really want to buy this book then go to a store where you can physically compare it to another Mac OS X book. Otherwise BUYER BEWARE, DO NOT BUY. BOOK IS AWFUL AND USELESS!!!

  3. If you have read the drivel this guy has written, that several misguided mags have published over the years, you will have a good idea as to what is in this book.

More extraneous drivel punctuated here and there with information contained in other books about Tiger. Too much nonsense with the actual useful content.

Get Pogues “Missing Manual” for solid content.

  4. K. Suzuki says:

Andy Ihnatko is a wannabe ‘writer’ who’s making a not very pleasant experience (reading technical information in an attempt to understand) unbearable by making the reader wade through mountains of banal wit. THis book truly sucks. Stay far far away from anything written by this ‘clown’.

Ignores some vital parts of OS X 10.4.4 such as Garage Band. Pogue’s book is better
