  2. S. Simpson says:

This book is a required text for a master’s class I am taking. The content is very good and germane to the subject of data communications, but is well dated. Both the book and the associated case studies refer to the technology of the early 2000s. While the basics of technology remain the same, the content should be updated given the price of the book.

I wouldn’t even give a zero to this book, it is simply the worst book I have used and definitely outdated. Just can’t understand why would a college use the old book horrible written. Nothing make sense, the back index is horrible – one cannot find what is needed, the definitions, everything is all over the place… Shouldn’t even cost a cent…Horrible

  4. This book was selected as a part of my graduate program at Johns Hopkins University. While the course didn’t rely heavily on the book, it was an excellent resource for supplemental information to the class lectures. On numerous occasions I would make notes in class regarding a particular technology or protocol that was listed in the lecture and I could locate the information very easily in the book. You really can’t ask for more and I would definitely recommend reading this book and then making a good place on the shelf for further use.

  5. Taking into consideration that this is a text book and I’ve only gotten through the first 3 chapters I find it a very informative, in-depth, and readable book. The information is provided in a manner that the average, non-computer, person can understand and absorb. I am an older adult returning to school after 20 years. It is hard to retain almost anything these days but this text makes it easier than most. I won’t say its easy, that is a matter of personal opinion, but easier in the sense that you can read a section and still realize that you understand what it is you just read and that it flowed smoothly from the previous section; incorporating previously stated ideas and information while addressing new ones.
