Product Description
Microsoft Excel continues to grow in power, sophistication, and capability, but one thing that has changed very little since the early ’90s is its user interface. The once-simple toolbar has been packed with so many features over the years that few users know where to find them all. Microsoft has addressed this problem in Excel 2007 by radically redesigning the user interface with a tabbed toolbar that makes every feature easy to locate and use. Unfortunately, Microsoft’s documentation is as scant as ever, so even if users can find advanced features, they probably won’t know what to do with them.
Excel 2007: The Missing Manual covers the entire gamut of how to build spreadsheets, add and format information, print reports, create charts and graphics, and use basic formulas and functions. Like its siblings in the Missing Manual series, this book crackles with a fine sense of humor and refreshing objectivity about its subject, guiding readers through the new Excel with clear explanations, step-by-step instructions, lots of illustrations, and friendly, time-saving advice. It’s a perfect primer for small businesses with no techie to turn to, as well as those who want to organize household and office information.

Wow. This book is hands-down the most comprehensive, entertaining, and downright useful MS Excel book I have ever owned. Don’t get me wrong – there’s other really great books out there (I personally love the “Bible” series) but this one just blows them all out of the park. Great job Mr. MacDonald! I am indebted to you.

Good beginning book on Excel 2007. Excellent screen shots and write up on almost all the features. I was hoping for a few more “expert” tips, but I still found the book very useful — like all the “Missing Manual” books.

Excel is an amazing program and it takes a skillful teacher to make its sometimes complicated procedures understandable and workable for the occasional user. This book delivers. Its terminology is consistent and clear and its illustrations are very helpful to make the point. Unfortunately, adequately covering the full range of topics requires a long book (800+ pages) and not many will have the time and endurance to read it cover to cover. But since many sections build on the knowledge of previous sections, some effort to get through the basics will be rewarded. It is highly recommended.

Missing manuals, written by the New York Times staff writers, are the gold standard. They are the ones that professionals use in preparing presentations on software. NYT will probably fire these guys once they learn how practical and close to reality the examples are! Not liberal at all – No create Utopia in absence of resources!

Very knowledgeable about Excel 2003, but needed a quick reference to help me navigate Excel 2007. Did not need to use the test alot, just find answers to specific quations on the differences. Sometimes a little overs simplified for what I really needed.
